Segregate people in Palike :HC

Last Updated 28 June 2013, 19:43 IST

The commissioner of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike was at the receiving end of the High Court on Friday during the hearing of a batch of petitions on garbage menace in the City.

“Commissioner, I am sorry to say that you are not doing your duty properly. Most of your officials are party to this fraud. Garbage in BBMP should be removed first. Segregate people in BBMP first, sack the unnecessary ones. If the officers ride on people, we will show them what we are,”  the Bench comprising Justices N Kumar and B V Nagarathna said.

The remarks came when a petitioner submitted that the Palike were still continuing with the old contractors for garbage disposal.

The Bench was unhappy when it learnt that Palike has not filed charge sheet against apartment owners who have failed to dispose of their waste in a scientific manner, though an FIR was filed in December 2012.

“You will have 15 days’ time to file charge sheet or we will act upon you. Shame on the part of the government. People want work to be done. If the officers don’t work, they should go,” the Bench said.

The Bench rapped the Palike when its counsel submitted that a section of people was responsible for the litter of garbage along the railway lines.

“You are not serious. Five per cent of the Bangaloreans are spoiling the City. Don’t say it is only the poor, take action,” the Court remarked.
