Lanka told not to dilute 13th amendment

India on Friday once again asked Sri Lanka not to make any move to dilute the 13th Amendment of the island nation’s Constitution.

External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid conveyed to Sri Lankan Minister for Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa New Delhi’s appeal to Colombo not to dilute the constitutional amendment that had promised to devolve more powers to the provincial legislatures.

Basil Rajapaksa, brother of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, called on Khurshid on a day Colombo announced elections in the Tamil-dominated northern province of the island nation.

Official sources said that the external affairs minister had expressed his appreciation for the announcement of elections for the northern province.
