Woman fights back chain-snatcher

Timely help from a motorbike rider helps land two miscreants in jail

Close on the heels of a father and son duo nabbing a chain snatcher in Vijayanagar police limits, helping recover valuables to the tune of Rs 42 lakh recently, a 50-year-old woman has shown exemplary courage in fighting a robber.

Her daring act, not only saved herself from falling easy prey, but also landed the accused in jail in Kuvempunagar police limits on Monday.

The victim Anuradha, a resident of 11th Main, Manujapatha road in Kuvempunagar, in the city, had gone to a shop on sixth Cross, A and B Block, Navilu road, in the same locality to buy milk in the morning, when she was attacked by a youth.

The youth, later identified as Chiranjeevi Prabhu, caused Anuradha to fall and tried to pull off the mangalsutra. Anuradha, who was taken aback awhile, raised an alarm attracting the attention of the shopkeeper. Anuradha also rained some blows on the face of Chiranjeevi.

If gone by the words of Anuradha, Chiranjeevi continued with his efforts even after Anuradha yelled at him, saying that ‘it was a gimcrack’. It’s only after Anuradha fought back, Chiranjeevi took to heels running towards a waiting two-wheeler in the corner of the road.

Not willing to let go off him easily, Anuradha raised an alarm calling passersby for help. Ravi, a cab driver, who was coming on his two-wheeler responded and chased the fleeing robbers on a two-wheeler to a distance. Ravi kicked the rear side of the mobike causing the duo fall off from the vehicle.

The duo was beaten black and blue by the enraged public, before handing them over to the police. The other accused is identified as Darshan, a polytechnic student and a resident of Kesare.

During interrogation, it came to light that Chiranjeevi is a habitual offender, while Darshan is his friend. Chiranjeevi still has 15 to 20 similar cases pending against him in different police limits.

Anuradha has suffered a scratch around her neck during her fight with the attacker.
DCP (crime and traffic) M M Mahadevaiah, Inspector K N Yeshwanth Kumar visited the spot.

Two arrested

N R Police have cracked the robbery case of a wine store owner, arresting two accused on the early hours of Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Rehman, 28 years, a mechanic and resident of Shanthinagar and Shabbeer Ali Khan, 24, flower vendor and a resident of Hanumantha Nagar.

The two are a part of the seven member gang that attacked the wine merchant on that day. Barring one among the remaining gang members, who is absconding, the others are already in judicial custody, but in various other cases.

On July 7, around 10.45 pm, the accused had attacked Pradeep, owner of Sri Rama Wines, N R Mohalla, when the latter was going on his two-wheeler near railway underbridge at Yadavagiri. The gang had made away with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash.
However, after the arrest of two, the investigators could recover only Rs 40,000 from the stolen amount, besides two motorbikes and cellphones.

The police team that cracked the case was led by Inspector D Dhananjaya.

Alert public nab 2

In another case, alert public nabbed two youths from Bihar and handed them over to Vijayanagar police in the city on Monday.

The accused have been identified as Dharmendra Kumar and Rajaneesh. A week ago, the duo had succeeded in making away with Rs 16,000 in cash, after diverting the attention of a bank customer near State Bank of India, Basavanagudi branch.

On Monday, the two went near the bank, only to be caught by the alert public, who had seen them on that day.

Rowdy sheet opened

Devaraja police have opened a rowdy sheet against two for allegedly threatening a baker on Monday.

Chandra alias ‘Bonda’ Chandra, a resident of Seebaiah road, and Mahadeva, a resident of Uttanahalli, are the persons.

The two had demanded Rs 5,000, besides a gunny bag full of rice from a baker on Dhanvantri road, for the forthcoming Gowri Ganesha festival on September 8 and 9.
