Work on Sankey tank embankment soon

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is expected to roll out a Rs 3.76-crore project to fortify the weakened eastern and western embankment of the City’s Sankey Tank.

According to a Palike official though tenders were invited in October 2012 for taking up the work, the same was, however, not approved by the Horticulture society and currently the tender process was under progress.

“In a month or two, work will commence from eastern side and gradually the western side work would be taken up too,” the official said. Further, BBMP officials said tenders had been invited to improve the existing embankment on the eastern side by providing gabion boxes.

The local residents have been complaining that the embankments were giving away resulting in water seepage.

“ The Palike has been repeatedly telling us that they have invited tenders for strengthening the bund and will take action but till date no steps have been taken.

The BBMP authorities had repaired the pathway a month ago and we hoped that the embankment too would be improved but that did not happen,” said Sumathi Rao, President, Malleswaram Swabhimana Initiative.
