After the successful launch of Amma canteens, where food is being served at subsidised rates, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha on Sunday inaugurated the “Amma Mineral Water” scheme to commemorate the 105th birthday of former chief minister Annadurai.

At a function held at the State Secretariat, Jayalalitha launched the mineral water scheme and also inaugurated the water production unit set up by the Transport Department at suburban Gummidipoondi through video-conferencing.

Under the Amma Mineral Water scheme, quality and affordable drinking water will be provided to the poor and middle-class people at Rs 10 a bottle.

An official release said that Amma Mineral Water would be sold in long-distance government buses, all bus termini in Chennai and bus stands in all districts across the state.

The one-litre water bottle will be sold at Rs 10 as against Rs 15 by the Railways and Rs 20-25 by private players.
