Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Sarvey Satyanarayana, has directed that a service road be constructed on the Bengaluru International Airport Road (NH-7) for those who seek to avoid paying the toll.

The minister, who was in the City on Saturday, conducted an inspection of the road following requests from Bangalore Taxi Owners’ Association and representatives of other organisations.

Contract scrutiny

He directed that a service road be laid from Esteem Mall to the Airport so that those using the road every day need not take the express way and pay the toll. He said he will also go through the contract to know the reason for collecting toll despite  the incomplete work on the road.

Satyanarayana said a portion of the land owned by Border Security Force (BSF) will have to be acquired for construction of the service road and that the BSF has consented to part with the land.

The general manager of Navayuga Engineering Company Limited, which is executing the express highway project, said the work would be completed by the end of November.
The minister warned that there would be no more extension of the deadline. The Rs 680-crore project was due to be completed by May this year.
