Keeping pace with time

For the smart and elegant man
Last Updated 06 October 2013, 14:12 IST

This brand is for men with class. And today, most men are style-conscious as they try to match their accessories with clothes. John Players is aware of this and hence it caters to the changing fashion requirements.

John Players has an impressive line of formal wear. One will find that the designers have taken care to make every piece of garment appear different. Atul Chand, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Lifestyle Retailing Business, talks about what sets John Players apart from
the rest of the brands in the market.

The design team at John Players add that striped designs have always been
subtle enough to look smart yet classic. The ‘Imperial Collection’ features a mix of classic patterns and contemporary checks in cotton. The safari blazers and the double-breasted blazers come in attractive colours such as blue, grey and purple. For a brighter option, one can choose from the ‘Bright Idea Collection’, which stocks formal wear in bright colours like hues of green, peach, pink, blues and yellows. “The shirt is an essential element of the range, thanks to varied versions with block colours, twists and novelties.

Designs are tweaked and finished with ultra-chic details. Elegance is in fashion,” explains Atul.

Talking about the variety in trousers, he states that regular fit trousers in earthy tones of beige, charcoal, greens, browns and greys are popular. These come in cotton and wrinkle-free fabric. Among the shirts, check and stripes continue to rule. “Be it pinstripes or T-shirt inspired horizontal stripes and a striped shirt is a must have for this season.

With formals becoming fashionable, men have started moving away from the plain boring shirts to the more fashionable and stylish check shirts,” observes Atul.

Atul feels that men are no less conscious than women when it comes to dressing up. “Men are not far from women when it comes to dressing up. They are equally choosy and careful to pick up the right outfit for themselves, be it office wear, party or even for a wedding. Men do not want to wear the same type of clothes and want to experiment with their looks,” he observes.

Men are choosy about accessories as well. “A trend of pop-out accessories is gaining popularity with casual wear. Men tend to pick belts, socks etc which have more colour blocking and varied patterns. Abstract motifs, embroideries and prints on belts are becoming a rage with the youth,” shares Atul.

Aqib Faraaz, III year BBM, Indian Academy Degree College, chose to slip into a grey blazer and matched it with a light purple shirt and grey formal trousers.

Punchline: “Formal wear always has a class of its own. Tweak the shirt and suit a little and it can be worn to a party and meetings as well. The garment fits well.”

Punchline: “The blue and white combination is catchy. The casual design and feel of the shirt makes it a popular pick for parties and a day out with friends.”
