BBMP to table monthly compliance reports

Last Updated 23 October 2013, 21:06 IST

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will table every month the compliance report on issues raised in its council. The BBMP Commissioner, M Lakshminarayana, issued an order to this effect recently.

Accordingly, a list of matters raised in the BBMP Council will be compiled and sent to the department concerned. The officers will gather information, verify the complaints and suggestions and implement them. Later, a compliance report will be sent to the BBMP Council Secretariat. The BBMP boss further said that officers should attend the council meeting so that they can clarify, in case corporators are not satisfied with the reply.

Lakshminarayana described the directive as an “administrative order”. “We have asked the officers to submit compliance reports on implementation of decisions taken in the BBMP Council,” he said, adding that the practice would be followed every month.

Of late, corporators have been complaining that officers never abide by issues they raise in the BBMP Council. As a result, they are forced to raise the same subject again and again.

They have also alleged that they could rarely get to know the status of numerous decisions taken in the council.

Many of these cases pertain to recovery of property taxes from tax defaulters, unauthorised optical fibre cable (OFC), lack of toilets, poorly maintained parks and playgrounds, bad roads, garbage problem, water crisis, sanitary drains and pavements.
Corporators have also contended that often when they sough answers, officials never turned up for the council meeting, which too had irked them.
