JD (S) supremo H D Deve Gowda took to task the bank officials for their inability to provide the necessary information at a meeting held in Hassan, on Wednesday.

The meeting convened to discuss various problems related to government projects implemented for the benefit of farmers, failed.

There were several complaints on the functioning of the bank and disbursal of loans at a progress review meeting presided over by the former prime minister H D Deve Gowda recently. Following this, it was decided to convene a meeting on Wednesday comprising only bank officials.

Deve Gowda, who was not convinced over the  reports given by the Lead bank officials in the meeting, raised several questions like percentage of revised loans, how many small and micro farmers have benefited from the loans, amount of loans provided by the banks and others.

The officials who did not expect such questions from Gowda, said that they would furnish all the details in the next meeting, further irking Gowda.

He took the officials to task saying that he is not conducting the meeting for “TA/DA purposes”, but to find out whether the government benefits were reaching the poor farmers.

Gowda has directed that a similar meeting be held in the next 15-20 days comprising all the bank’s representatives including Cooperative, Nationalised and Scheduled banks. Action would be taken on those who are absent, he warned.

He also suggested the Assistant General Manager of RBI to monitor the banks and ascertain whether they have been executing the projects, for the welfare of the farmers. He also asked the banks to furnish him copies of the circulars issued by NABARD, RBI and Central government after 2010.
