The wallet left by the thieves who attempted to loot the ATM in Doddanekkundi, gave the vital clues that led to their arrest within hours of commission of the crime.

In a swift action, the police arrested Jintu Devnath, 20, and Naboakaur, 21, both from Assam, from a private hospital in the vicinity. The two were working as domestic helps and dog trainers at an apartment complex off the Ring Road.

According to sources in the police department, the two have confessed to the crime during interrogation. A senior official said police have sufficient evidence to establish the involvement of the duo in the crime. They had been caught on camera during their attempt to loot the ATM, police added. The two constables who made a vain attempt to nab the two, immediately alerted their seniors. Additional forces soon rushed to the spot.

In their attempt to flee the spot, the miscreants had left behind a wallet, two kitchen knives and a screwdriver with which they stabbed the security guard to death. The contents in the wallet gave police crucial information on the culprits. A special team was soon formed to launch the manhunt.

The search was further bolstered by the information given by the two constables that the thieves had sustained injuries to their arms. All the hospitals in the vicinity were alerted and a nursing home informed the police that two men from Northeast were being treated in the hospital for injuries.

Police rushed to the nursing home where the constables identified the duo. They were arrested immediately.
