Native of Ch'nagar wins Rajyotsava award

S Ayyappan, Secretary of National Agricultural Research and Education Department and Director of Indian Council for Agricultural Research, who will receive Rajyotsava award, in Bangalore, on November 1, expressed his gratitude to the State government, here, on Thursday.

The achievement of S Ayyappan in research in fisheries is commendable. He is well-known in the field of agriculture across the country.

Ayyappan was born on December 10, 1955, to Subbanna and Susheelamma couple of Alakere Agrahara, Yalandur taluk. He completed his primary education in Nanjangud. Later, he joined National High School in Bangalore. He was graduated in the year 1975 in Fisheries and did his post graduation course in the same subject in 1977.

Ayyappan continued research in fisheries and joined Barakpur Central Fisheries Research Institution as a scientist.

Ayyappan has served as director of Mumbai Central Fisheries Teaching Institution. He has publisher over 200 articles in reputed journals, from across the country.

Ayyappan, speaking to Deccan Herald, said: “Due to global warming, there is imbalance in the whether conditions. This affects the farmers badly.

The governments should take steps to address this issue,” he said.
