Collection of extra fee quashed

A petition had been filed by R A Chandrashekar, challenging resolution adopted by the RTA to levy a fee of Rs 500 per extra ton and then allowing it to carry extra luggage. A SC order had stated that levying  fine and then allowing them to carry the extra weight was equivalent to permitting them to carry the excess luggage, and therefore the extra weight should be unloaded before allowing the vehicle to proceed,  petitioner said.
