The State government will complete the fieldwork on the economic survey by January 20 and a final report will be submitted to the Centre by the end of March.

Minister for Information Technology and Biotechnology and Planning S R Patil told reporters here on Tuesday that 42,000 enumerators had been deployed to identify the vocation and economic activity of every household in the State.

The enumerators have already covered 25 districts and the five remaining districts would be covered in the next few days.

Based on the economic survey, the State would use the data for preparing an area-specific skill development programme for each district, Patil added.

The State will also prepare a Human Development Index (HDI) at the taluk and district levels for the first time.

V Manjula, Principal Secretary for Planning, said that the government had identified the lead institutions in every district for preparing the index.  The HDI is likely to be compiled by the end of January.
