Wife among four held for man's murder

A woman who had hatched her husband’s murder plot along with her paramour is now cooling her heels behind bars.

Hunsur police on Wednesday arrested four persons, including a woman and her lover for strangulating a man to death in Mookanahalli in the taluk (Hunsur) last December.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare said, the arrested have been identified as Jayalakshmi and her lover Shankar of Mookanahalli, relatives (of Jayalakshmi) Kiran of Doddegowdana Koppal, and Palaksha of Wodeyara Hosahalli, in Periyapatna taluk.

Jayalakshmi who was married to Nakula for eight years, was having an extra-marital affair with Shankar. Nakula who learnt about his wife’s affair, started to harass her. Depressed, Jayalakshmi had tried to end her life.

On December 14, 2013, Jayalakshmi decided to get rid of her husband. As per the plan, she went to sleep without latching the main door of the house. Shankar and three others who sneaked into the house, strangled Nakula who was asleep, with the dhoti given by Jayalakshmi. The trio later shifted the body to the pavement of the house to mislead others.

When the neighbours enquired the Jayalakshmi following day, she cooked up a story, saying that her husband had gone outside after receiving a phone call.

The police team led by Dy SP (Hunsur sub-division) Nanjunda, consisting of Circle Police Inspector H S Gajendra Prasad, SI Lava among others, cracked the case.
