DCC former chief vents ire against party leaders

Last Updated 16 January 2014, 20:41 IST

District Congress Committee former president M L Murthy has vented his ire against the attitude of party leaders in the district which he felt would badly affect the party in future. The DCC President is not moving forward by joining hands with the leaders and party workers, he alleged.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Murthy said that a delegation will soon meet the Congress leaders in the State and bring the problems persisting in the party to their notice. Bureaucrats are speaking ill about Sonia Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. But, the district leaders are least bothered about it. Police officers supporting BJP and Bajarangadal are posted in the police stations, he complained.

Why resignation

Speaking about the resignation for the first time after he resigned from the post of District Congress Committee president, M L Murthy said that he had to resign claiming moral responsibility for the party’s failure in the Assembly elections in the district.

He said that an intellectual leader from the district had stated in the introspection meeting post election in Bangalore, that the Congress was dead in Chikmagalur district and if the situation continues, MP Jayaprakash Hegde may not win in the Parliament elections. None of the party leaders reacted to his statement. “I introspected myself and learnt that the party will be harmed if I continue in the post. It was then that I decided to resign from the post of DCC president,” he said.

Further, he continued that all the leaders are equally responsible for the party’s failure. K B Mallikarjun who had advised for the resignation of all KPCC members in the district, himself resigned the very next day, but none of the remaining 15 KPCC members resigned from the post, he said.“I have also resigned from the post of Central Coire Board. I am a coconut grower and not a coir trader. I believe, it would be better to appoint a person who has worked in coir industry, to that post,” Murthy said.

Murthy supported Sachin Meega who was expelled from the post of Congress Kisan unit recently. He also demanded the police to arrest the third accused - BJP leader Rajashekhar - in the case of desecration of a place of worship in the city recently.
