Intoxicating Musical Magic’, a jazz performance by the duo from Belgium — Alain Pierre and Barbara Wiernik — was held at The Bangalore School of Music, recently. Alain, the guitarist, and Barbara, the singer, mesmerised the audience with their rendition.

Most of the songs that they performed were in English with some being original compositions.

The performance started with ‘Throw It Away’, which brought the crowd in to the mood, and progressed to ‘Like A Summer Rain’. While the audience applauded after each piece, the performance then moved to a piece dedicated to the jazz addicts called ‘It Could Happen To You’. The artistes also performed a Portuguese and French jazz song. What was unique about the performance was that each piece was short and different from the other.

Addressing the audience, Barbara said, “People here are used to hearing long and elaborate songs. But we are more used to pieces that are shorter.”

Other songs like ‘Riverman’, ‘Sailor of the Sun’, and a song from their album ‘Endless’, were also performed. Barbara, who was excited after the show, said, “We wanted to do something unique and this show was the end product. The audience here is very encouraging and the intimate space helped to make the performance better.” Alain added that Bangalore had an audience that accepts all sorts of music, and they were excited to be in the City.

The audience was very appreciative of the performance and shared their joy on being a part of the show. Sharada K, a music teacher said, “The performers had a great chemistry and the way they communicated with each other throughout was good.”“The vocals were something totally different from what I’ve ever heard. The artistes were versatile and creative, presenting each piece differently,” shared Radhika K, a member of the audience.
