Eagles SC upset United SC 2-0 in a Group ‘A’ Federation Cup match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Monday.

While United SC would have finished in second place behind Churchill Brothers irrespective of the outcome of their result, the loss means that they will go back from the tournament with just a point from three outings.

In a Group ‘D’encounter between Bhawanipore and United Sikkim SC at Manjeri, the former won by a solitary goal.

With both teams going for a win so as not to finish as the wooden spoon holders of the group, the fast-starting Bhawanipore scored the only goal of the game through Daniel Bidemi in the 4th minute.  The win means that they will finish in third place with three points.

In the other match, Eagles rode on a brace from Koko Sakibu, who scored in either half, to take the Kerala-based outfit to a famous win over their illustrious opponents.

After Sakibu gave Eagles the lead in the 12th minute when he beat the offside trap, he made sure of the points in the 86th minute after lobbing the goalkeeper Jayanta.

Tuesday’s fixtures: Group ‘B’: Sporting Clube de Goa vs Rangdajied, East Bengal vs Bengaluru FC.

Group ‘C’: Shillong Lajong vs Mumbai FC, Salgaocar vs Mohun Bagan.
