SP leader thrashes engineer

Another MLA slaps official at panchayat meet in UP

Two senior officials were allegedly assaulted by SP leaders in different parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday triggering a sharp reaction from the opposition parties causing embarrassment to the SP leadership.

A junior engineer with Moradabad Development Authority, S K Gupta, was allegedly thrashed by SP leader Rajesh Yadav and his goons simply because Gupta failed to pay respect to him.

According to the reports, Gupta was in a gym in Moradabad town, about 350 kilometers from here, when Yadav arrived there with his goons on Friday. The engineer continued with his exercise despite seeing Yadav which irked the leader. The SP leader and his goons then thrashed him.

The engineers of the authority have gone on strike in protest against the assault demanding action against the leader.

In another incident, an SP leader, Gorakh Yadav, allegedly slapped a senior official in Kushinagar, about 325 kilometers from here, on Friday during a meeting of the district panchayat board.

Yadav got angry with the official after his efforts to draw the leader’s attention failed.

The meeting was later cancelled and a case was registered. A few days ago, a female marketing inspector in the food and civil supplies department was thrashed by an SP leader’s son for daring to stop her from pilfering in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district.

In another case, SP MLA Shribhagwan Sharma alias Pandit Singh, who has criminal antecedents, thrashed a revenue official in Bulandshahar district allegedly after the official refused to pay ‘protection money’ to the goons of the MLA.

Earlier, SP leaders have been involved in assaulting officials and common people in the state. SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had recently warned the party leaders and workers against breaking the law and said such leaders would be shown the door.
