Third front is for Congress' protection, says Modi

Last Updated 11 February 2014, 20:29 IST

Continuing his blistering attack against political parties trying to form a third front at the Centre, BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the principal agenda of these parties was to save the Congress and bail out the party in times of crisis.

“Nine out of these 11 parties who are trying to form a third front have helped the Congress at one time or the other in the past. They always side with the Congress and just before the elections wear the mask of a third front to mislead the people. Their principal agenda is to help the Congress and bail the party out at the time of crisis,” Modi said while addressing his maiden election rally in Odisha.

He appealed to the people to teach these third front aspirants, including the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD), a lesson, so that the process of cleaning the present political system in the country could begin.

“The 2014 elections will be an opportunity to clean the political system in this country and that cannot be possible unless the people realise the real motive of these third front parties and teach them a lesson,” he maintained.

Modi also compared the states located in the eastern side of the country to those in the west.
