The row over a book by a former disciple of Mata Amritanandamayi that makes serious allegations against the spiritual guru and her Ashram took a new turn with the police registering a case against people who made derogatory comments against the Ashram based on the book’s contents.

The book–Holy Hell: A memoir of faith, devotion and pure madness by Gail Tredwell, a former disciple of Mata Amritanandamayi–has been fiercely debated on social media for the manner in which the book “exposes” the spiritual guru known as “Amma” by millions of followers across the world.

The case has been registered by the Karunagappally police under the IT act, based on a complaint made by a group of devotees against those who commented. The Ashram is yet to issue a formal statement in connection with the controversy.
