Mulayam blasts callous SP ministers

Last Updated 04 March 2014, 20:02 IST

Worried over a deteriorating law and order situation, increasing lawlessness among Samajwadi Party (SP) workers and leaders and factionalism, party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday expressed serious displeasure with his son Akhilesh Yadav’s government.

He asked Uttar Pradesh ministers to mend their ways or be ready to face consequences.

Addressing a meeting of senior party leaders, including ministers, Mulayam told Akhilesh not to fall prey to “sycophants”. “Sycophants harm the government,” he said.

The SP supremo asked the ministers to either “perform or perish”. “I know about everyone (minister)...I have all the information...you must mend your ways or prepare to face the consequences,” he warned.

Mulayam said he would, under no circumstances, tolerate “incompetent and non-performing” ministers. They would have to go. “I will review the performance of the ministers after 10 days...they must mend their ways,” he said.

Mulayam said the ministers would face their first test in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. “If the SP Lok Sabha nominees lose, you (ministers) will neither remain ministers nor will get Assembly tickets,” he added, pointing out that the ministers took a long time in clearing files and taking important decisions.
