Notice to State, Union governments on DV Act

 
The petitioner, Veena Rai, a resident of R T Nagar, had moved the High Court seeking speedy disposal of cases related to domestic violence.

The petitioner has submitted that despite the provision in Domestic Violence Act, 2005, to the effect, the Magistrate Court should dispose DV cases within 60 days, several matters are still pending for the last one year as the time limit is not observed at all.

The petitioner, while seeking directions for speedy disposal of cases has also sought appointment of a special officer to deal with this.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice P D Dinakaran and Justice Anand Byra Reddy has ordered notice to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and the State government.
