Police conduct raids, 18 held with illegal arms

The joint operation unit of Delhi electoral officers and Delhi Police has registered 17 cases under Arms Act and arrested 18 persons so far for allegedly keeping unauthorised firearms.

After the imposition of model code of conduct ahead of the Parliamentary elections, slated on April 10, police have apprehended more than 1,500 people under preventive measures.

“The joint flying squad has conducted raids at suspected localities and recovered illegal firearms,” said a senior Delhi electoral officer.

After the arrest of 94 people on March 14 for preventive action under section 107/150/151 CrPC, the total number of cases under this provision has reached 560, and 871 people have been arrested so far.

Under preventive measures, police have bound down 193 people across the city, 38 of them were bound down on March 14. The total number of people detained under section 65 of Delhi police act till March 14 is 1,566.

Fifty-four FIRs were lodged and 56 people were arrested till March 14 under the Excise Act. Police have seized 432 litres of illegal liquor from the possession of the accused persons.

About 562 illegal bills and poster were removed from public property and 69 cases of defacement of property has been registered.

Seven cases of defacement of private properties have also been registered and 61 of such illegal bills and poster were removed from such places.

“Eleven FIRs have been lodged against BJP, 10 against Congress party, seven against the AAP, three against BSP, one against SP and 45 against others have been registered for violation of model code of conduct,” said the official.
