Congress MP and chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Naveen Jindal today lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against two news channels belonging to a group for allegedly telecasting false news against him.

"They have run 85 false news items against me since March 5, when code of conduct for the general elections came in place... We today approached the Election Commission, seeking stoppage of this malicious campaign," he told reporters after meeting Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath and other officials in the Commission.

Jindal, who is seeking re-election from Kurukshetra in Haryana, said that the two channels were running false news items against him as he had exposed them in 2012 seeking Rs 100 crore for telecasting favourable news.

"With evidence we showed how their editors were seeking Rs 100 crore from us. We had exposed them and because of that, now they are running false news everyday against me, which is in violation of section 125 of the Representation of People Act and the guidelines issued by the Commission to the media," he said.

According to Jindal, the Commission assured him that they would take necessary action.

Jindal is also planning to lodge a complaint against the two channels with the Editors' Guild and other media-related bodies, he said.

Replying to a question, Jindal said that he or his firm has never funded Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party.
