Women voters outnumber men in Udupi constituency

As many as 13,51,245 voters will decide the fate of the candidates in Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency.

Speaking to media persons here on Thursday, DC Dr Muddu Mohan said that enrollment campaign of the voters is exclusively taken up and March 27 will be the last date. As many as 7,155 fresh applications are being scrutinized. Of the total number of voters registered till date, women (6,89,833) outnumber men (6,61,364). There are 1,751 polling booths, of which 819 are in Udupi and 932 in Chikmagalur. The DC said central para-military force would be in-charge of the security of polling stations in Maoist affected areas. A head constable along with a home guard will be deployed in hyper-sensitive polling booths.

Security arrangements

The DC added that as many as 132 sectoral officers are appointed in both the districts. Besides, 31 flying squads, 33 static surveillance teams, 17 video surveillance teams, two assistant expenditure observers, eight expenditure accounting teams and 10 video viewing teams are deployed.

  Ranjan Jha has taken over the charge as expenditure observer. The DC called upon the candidates to exclusively maintain a separate bank account for the election expenses. Shadow register will be maintained. Taluk-level single window committee is formed to look in the permission for the political rallies. Tahsildar will head the committee. District level committee will be headed by Additional DC. District expenditure Monitoring Committee and Media Certification and Monitoring Committees too have been formed.

SVEEP campaign is taken up to create awareness among the voters. Hoardings, flex and posters will be put up at the important junctions. Street plays, essay competition, film shows, seminars, Yakshagana will be part of SVEEP programmes, he said.
