PC makes way for son in Sivaganga

Last Updated 20 March 2014, 20:41 IST

Finance Minister P Chidambaram has made way for his son Karthi in the Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha elections. The Congress Central Election Committee, however, cleared the name of Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari but stopped short of formally announcing it.

The 50 candidates announced by the Congress on Thursday night include former Union minister Manishankar Aiyar, who will contest from Mayiladuthurai while Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Delhi, the Congress has re-nominated sitting MPs Mahabal Mishra and Ramesh Kumar from West Delhi and South Delhi Lok Sabha seats, respectively.

The Congress has not ended the suspense over its candidate from Varanasi, from where BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is in fray. Laxman Singh, the brother of AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh, has been fielded from Vidisha in Madhya Pradesh, a seat represented by senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj. Puranmasi Ram, who crossed over to the Congress from the JD(U) only on Wednesday, has been fielded from Gopalganj in Bihar. Two-term Madhya Pradesh MLA Imarti Devi has been fielded from Bhind.
