JD(S) MLA flays CM

“If Chief Minister Siddaramaiah wants to develop H D Kote taluk, I will resign as MLA,” said Chikkamadu, JD(S) MLA from HD Kote constituency, here, on Thursday.

His reaction follows Siddaramaiah’s statement during an election campaign at H D Kote, on Sunday, promising more grants from the State government, if there was a Congress MLA from the constituency.

“I think the CM is not happy with me. If he can promise development to a backward taluk in the district, I will step down as MLA,” he challenged.

He said, my ultimate aim is to develop and address various problems in the constituency and not hang on to power. “The taluk, which has the largest tribal population, still has no potable drinking water facility, road connectivity and lacks basic amenities.

Most of the people still live in forests. Even though there are three reservoirs in the taluk, there is no provision for drinking water supply to most of the villages. If he (CM) solves all these problems, I am ready to step down,” he added.

Speaking about the Lok Sabha polls, he said, earlier, the JD(S) had decided to field an incumbent MLA from Mysore district, later switched over to K R Mallikarjunappa and again to Congress leader Jaffer Sharief.

Finally, the party zeroed on retired judge Chandrashekaraiah, who expressed his desire to contest either from Mandya or Mysore-Kodagu constituency, he added.Upliftment

Chandrashekaraiah, speaking on the occasion, said, he hails from an agrarian family. “Working as an advocate and judge, I have strived for upliftment of Dalits, backward communities and minorities,” he said.
