Former minister S A Ramdas’s statement against UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Saturday,  has had a ripple effect, with local BJP leaders going back and forth on their statements, leaving the BJP red faced.

On Sunday, responding to queries Ramdas’s comments about Sonia being the “daughter of a traitor”, BJP MLC Go Madhusudan said that personal attacks were wrong, and BJP did not justify Ramdas’s stand. He went on to add that the party had withdrawn the responsibilities entrusted upon Ramdas.

When asked about Ramdas (who himself is dogged by controversies) canvassing on behalf of BJP’s candidate Pratap Simha, he said that it would not damage the party.

Justification

“BJP does not justify the statements made by him. If he is found guilty in the cases lodged against him, the law will take its course.

However, he is campaigning at his own behest,” he added.

Following this, Ramdas issued media statements saying that he was unaware of being stripped of his responsibilities in Krishnaraja Assembly constituency, but, he had been campaigning for Simha, as a mere party worker.

His statements in turn were frowned upon by the party. City BJP president, E Maruthirao Pawar dismissed statements made by Madhusudan and said that Ramdas had been entrusted with the responsibility of campaigning for Simha.

“The statements made by Madhusudan is due to his personal differences with Ramdas. Leaders of the State have been briefed about the differences of opinion between the two. They will take an appropriate action with respect to the same,” he said.
