‘The Congress will not win two digit seats in a few states’

Coming down heavily on the Congress, BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi predicted a clear victory for the BJP. The Congress will not even open its account and will not win even two digit seats in several states in the country.

He was addressing the party’s ‘Bharatha Gellisi’ rally at Subhashchandra Bose stadium in Chikmagalur on Sunday. Rubbishing the political calculations, he said the calculation of political ‘pandits’ will not prove true in this election.

“The popular slogan of the Congress during the time of Lal Bahaddur Shastri ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kisan’ has now been changed as ‘Mar Jawan Mar Kisan.’ The Congress government has neither given protection to military personnel nor to the farmers,” he said.

Speaking about Chikmagalur, he said that a tea-seller (himself) has now come to the coffee sellers. There is strong bond between coffee and tea. “I am aware of the problems faced by coffee growers. Chikmagalur coffee is world famous, but the government has failed to market and add value to the product in a right way.

I had suggested then minister Jairam Ramesh who too hails from the coffee land, to add value to coffee using modern technology and establish educational institutions to take up research on coffee. But, he did not pay heed to my advise,” he said.

Modi indirectly criticised Jairam Ramesh for terming India as the third grade nation. He was born in Chikmagalur and educated in foreign nation, and then got down to the level of degrading India. Can he be the son of India?, he asked.

“I am not asking which government you want at the Centre. I am only asking you, do you need a government which is dumb and deaf, a government that is disabled? A remote control government? The country needs a stable government to change its path.

Therefore help the BJP win the election with over 300 seats. Only a good government can take the country on the path of development,” Modi said.

He did not leave a chance to criticise ex-prime minister Indira Gandhi who was once elected from Chikmagalur constituency.

“You helped India Gandhi in her tough time. But, she did not contribute to your district, When she contested from Chikmagalur, the Congress men used to shout s slogan that ‘there was one lioness and hundred monkeys in the fray.’ Lioness is no more and you know what is left in the Congress,” he ridiculed.

BJP candidate for the constituency Shobha Karandlaje, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and others were present.
