Discrimination alleged at Udupi Mutt

A devotee alleged caste-based discrimination for having food at Udupi Sri Krishna Mutt on Tuesday. According to Vanitha Shetty, a devotee, she was asked to stop having lunch along with her Brahmin friends.

She told Deccan Herald that she had visited the temple along with her friends to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. After offering prayers, all the five went to the dining hall in the mutt to have prasada. 

A person named Shankar Bhat, came to her and asked her to which mutt she belongs to. For which she replied that she is a non-Brahmin. Immediately she was asked to leave the spot without having the prasada.

Vanitha who works as the physiotherapy lecturer in KMC Manipal said that she immediately brought the issue to the notice of mutt officials. They apologised for the act of Shankar Bhat. Shetty wants to register a complaint in connection with the discrimination meted out to her in the temple.
