Thieves made away with one kg of gold ornaments by gaining access to a jewellery shop through the hole of a stormwater drain, located around 50-60 feet away from the shop, in Ramamurthy Nagar Main Road under K R Puram police limits.

According to police, Rajagopal, owner of Kairali Jewellery, had closed the shop on April 26 and left for Kerala for spinal chord treatment.

When he came back on Tuesday and opened the shop, he noticed a hole in the floor and the locker was broken and the showcase empty.

He was shocked to find that the shop was literally empty and informed the police. The police said the miscreants had meticulously planned the burglary and entered the shop from an opening of a nearby stormwater drain.

They  have gained entry into the shop by digging another five feet tunnel from the drain to the floor of the shop.

“According to the owner, around one kg of gold ornaments were found missing and silver valuables were left untouched. Luckily, the owner had not kept any cash in the shop. The shop was not equipped with CCTV cameras and there is no clue left behind. The owner has employed two helpers, who are being questioned,” police said.

It is suspected that some known people might have carried out a recce before committing the burglary and it is also suspected that more than three people are involved in the crime.
