Explaining the specialty of these machines, Rajeev N C, marketing manager of the diagnostic centre, said compared to the normal 64 slice CT scan that was available in most diagnostic centres, the 128 slice CT took 426 images in one second. This meant that one would get a large amount of data about the heart at a faster level.

“Fifty per cent of the people, who die of heart attack, die in the first attack itself. Many of these people don’t even know that they have any heart ailment. With the help of this CT scan machine, we can prevent the deaths,” said Sanjay David from Siemens, which has manufactured both the machines. He added that even the patient’s exposure to radiation is relatively less. Similarly, the new MRI scan machine can perform head to toe imaging at one go instead of examining different parts of the body separately. “Even the noise level is reduced by 97 per cent, said Rajeev. The two machines will be operational from Friday.
