Welcome evening shower for Bangaloreans

The sudden showers in the City on late Tuesday evening brought respite to Bangaloreans from scorching summer heat.

Bangalore City (up to 11.30 pm) recorded 8.8 mm of rainfall while HAL airport (up  to 11.30 pm) and KIAL (up to 5.30 pm) had received 21.7 mm and 5.6 mm rainfall, respectively. The City recorded a maximum temperature of 33.9 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.4 degrees Celsius.

A few trees were uprooted in some parts of the City following the downpour.
On Bannerghatta Road near Vijaya Bank Colony, two trees were uprooted leading to traffic snarl for sometime before they were cleared by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike workers. Similarly, three trees - one each at BTM Layout, Kumaraswamy Layout and Banashankari were uprooted. However, there were on reports of water clogging or slow moving traffic.

Heavy rain for two days

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in the City and State for the next two days.

According to the IMD Bangalore Director B Puttanna, conditions are favourable and the monsoon is advancing. “There is a low-pressure area over east central Bay of Bengal and there is an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 5.8 km above sea level in Bay of Bengal.

In Karnataka, there is a trough of low pressure at mean sea level moving from the north to south which is also bringing more rainfall. There is also an upper air trough extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level which is embedded with cyclonic circulation over south interior Karnataka," he told Deccan Herald.

He added that under the influence of these systems, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over south interior and coastal Karnataka for the next 48 hours. The rainfall could measure up to 65 mm.
