R'than to have a 'people's budget'

BJP government will now ensure direct participation of the people in preparing the annual state budget. 

For the first time any government in the state has sought direct suggestions from the people on various schemes and project, which can be included in state budget.A special online application format has been prepared by the finance department, which will soon be uploaded on the official website of state government. 

The application includes all the projects and schemes presently running in the state.Officials said people of the state can give their suggestion over any new scheme or project, that they think will be beneficial for the state. Applicants may also raise the basic problems or any major issues to bring it in the notice of state government.“Budget is meant for the development of the state and its people. It a chance for the people to tell state government what they want,” said a senior officials of finance department.

“Suggestions have been invited only for schemes and projects. Once online entries are closed, the suggestions will be analyzed and reviewed by government. If any idea is found suitable and feasible for mass benefit, it will be surely implemented,” he added in his statemnt.

Officials also said last date to submit online application is June 10, after which all applications will be reviewed at various levels.

 If suggestions of any applicant are found interesting and get included in state budget, the applicant will be honored by state government in the public function.

Announced in manifesto

However, BJP leaders said the move to invite public suggestions before preparing state budget was announced in the election manifesto released by party just before assembly elections. 

The entire exercise is part of that announcement.

“State government works for the development of the state and welfare of its people. Direct involvement of people in governance brings more transparency and leads to good governance,” said a senior BJP leader.
