Two minor girls were allegedly raped in separate incidents in north-east Delhi’s Harsh Vihar and Begampur on the city’s outskirts, police said on Saturday.

In the first incident, a 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her elder sister’s neighbour in Harsh Vihar. The victim, a class 10 student, came to the capital from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district to look after her pregnant sister.

At 10.30 am on Friday, the girl was dragged into a neighbouring house by a youth named Nandlal.

“The girl said she was kept confined and raped in the house by the 25-year-old accused,” a police officer said. The victim told police that she was kept captive for two hours.

The accused also threatened the girl against revealing the assault. Later, she narrated the ordeal to her sister.  “Her sister then told other members of the family and they decided to approach police,” the officer added.

A case was filed after the girl’s medical examination at Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital confirmed sexual assault.

On the basis of her statement and medical examination, Nandlal was arrested from his house. Nandlal, who hails from Bihar, works as a labourer in a nearby factory that manufactures footwear.

In the second incident, another 15-year-old girl was raped after being kidnapped from her neighbourhood in Begampur.

The girl told police that she was returning home from a nearby market when she was dragged inside a car by an unknown person. She was then taken to an isolated location, where she was allegedly raped.

The accused fled from the spot, after which the girl returned home and informed her family members.

Police were approached, but the girl failed to provide much information to investigating officers. Her statement has been recorded. A sketch of the possible suspect has also been prepared.
