Congress wrests Manmul from JD(S)

In what could be a breather for Congress party that recently lost the recent parliamentary polls to Janata Dal (Secular), the grand old party on Monday wrested the reins of Mandya Milk Union Limited (Manmul) from the regional party.

In the keenly fought elections to 12 posts of directors, seven Congress supported candidates won against five supported by the regional party. In Mandya taluk, two seats were won by Congress party - U C Shivakumar (Ummadahalli) and S P Mahesh (Sathanur) and one by JD(S) B Chandru (Bilidegula). At Maddur taluk, Congress and JD(S) won one each, with Kadalur Ramakrishna and K Umesh fromt Kudaragundi elected respectively, followed by G T Shivakumar of Congress from Pandavapura taluk, V M Vishwanath from JD(S) in Malavalli taluk, B Boregowda of JD(S) from M Shettahalli in Srirangapatna taluk, S Ambaresh from Sheelanere (Congress), and Ravi K from Harapanahalli cross from K R Pet taluk, Bettaswamy Gowda from Congress and D T Krishne Gowda of Doddachikkalli from JD(S) in Nagamangala taluk, according to the returning officer Shantha Hulmani.

Among the losers, P Ramegowda from Maddur and H M Shyamsunder from Mandya missed the victory by two votes. The election was held at Lakshmi Janardhan Girls High School in the town from morning till evening hours.
