'Tortured' childless woman ends life

A 28-year-old homemaker allegedly ended her life by ingesting poison at her residence in Kamalanagar under the Basaveshwaranagar police limits on Tuesday night.

The dead has been identified as Asha. She was married to Suresh about eight years ago.

According to the police, Suresh and his family members constantly abused her for not being able to conceive a child.

Asha was undergoing treatment for infertility for the past few months, the police said.

On Tuesday night, she consumed poison in her bedroom. Her husband who returned home found her unconscious and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she was declared brought dead.

Asha’s mother Sumitra told the police that her daughter was tortured by her husband and in-laws for not bearing a child. The police have registered a case and are questioning Suresh.

In another incident, a vegetable vendor was found hanging from a tree near Krishna Rao Park in the Basavanagudi police limits early Wednesday morning.

Police gave the name of the deceased as Narasimaiah, 46, a resident of Hosakerahalli. The incident came to light when one of the sweepers cleaning the pavement spotted the body."

The police said the victim was identified based on some cards and a few contact numbers found in his pocket. He was also carrying Rs 15,000 in cash.

Narasimaiah’s family members said he had left home at 3 am and never returned. The reason for the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, the police said.
