“In a democratic system nobody can dictate what voters’ should do. They have every right to stay where they wish”, he said, addressing press persons in Bangalore on Sunday.

“When legislators and parliamentarians stay in resorts for many days, what’s wrong if Grama Panchayat members follow the suit,” the Chief Minister observed. He also added, “For many years, this had been the practice”.

Hundreds of Gram Panchayat members from Bellary district had been taken away to Dharwad where they were kept at a resort, allegedly at the behest of the Reddy brothers of Bellary.

Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy refused to react when asked his reply to the report. “I will react to this only after the elections are over”, he said.
