The Department of Pre-University Education has finally suspended B P Pandurangaiah, principal of the government PU college at Pattanayakanahalli in Sira taluk, over allegations that he had subjected a student to sexual assault in November last year.
The principal had been absconding since the incident. The police had failed to arrest the suspect even as a number of organisations and the public demanded that he be arrested.
Pandurangaiah later obtained bail and continued in the same post.
It is said that the delay in taking action against him was on account of political pressure.
