The State government will chalk out an effective strategy to bring out of school children back into the schools, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Kimmane Rathnakar has said.

Speaking to mediapersons in Ayanur of Shimoga taluk on Tuesday, the minister said that as many as 1.72 lakh children had been identified to have dropped out of school. He said that 54,000 such children have been brought back to school this year.

“Apart from this, the government has directed the authorities concerned to
construct temporary sheds in urban areas and conduct classes for children of daily-wage labourers including construction workers. We are also keeping a close watch on the students, who migrate from place to place by issuing identity cards to them,” the minister said.

He added that the State government would submit an affidavit before the High Court explaining the measures taken to tackle the issue.
