Making innovative presentations

The oxford definition of presentation refers to “a speech or talk in which a new product, idea, or piece of work is shown and explained to an audience.”

The art of presentation has been known to be a self acquired skill which individuals work on in order to get perfection.

Presentation becomes a more difficult task because it is associated with an audience which needs to be addressed in a proper manner.

The mastery of presentation lies in how well the audience receives and comprehends it.

Hence for years people have been using various tools with the help of which they can enhance their presentation techniques and skills.

In old times, in educational and working institutions, workmen used to present by way of a black board using pieces of chalk to lay down their projects for their colleagues.

But with passage of time, whiteboards and eventually technology took over and people began presenting with the help of power point presentations.

It is a well known software among students and working class people who explain their projects and work to others by way of slides having graphic and sound effects.

This software has remained to be 2- dimensional uptil now, when new methods are beginning to take shape.

One such example is Prezi- a cloud based presentation software storytelling tool for presenting ideas on virtual canvas. In technical words, The product employs a “zooming user interface (ZUI)”, which allows users to zoom in and out of their presentation media, and allows users to display and navigate through information within a 2.5D or parallax 3D space on the Z-axis.

In simple words, It enhances the “zoom” facility of a presentation and makes it more dynamic in nature and it also allows one to store their presentations in the cloud.

It helps in collaborative work and any sort of editing can take place on the internet itself.

Prezi makes the whole presentation a good visual experience and can help in connection between topics in a visual manner instead of the age old arrows and bullets.

Today power point can still be used to make a very formal presentation but if the audience’s attention needs to be garnered then the software is the best tool at the moment.

The entire point of a presentation is that it should by nature be interactive. It should have the ability to engage the audience and not be a one way discussion. This criterion is fulfilled by Prezi.

Like any other presentation, design is the most important thing.

If the design fails, the entire presentation falls apart. Hence lack of good designs has often caused motion sickness making people feel a little dizzy.

This has been one of the biggest drawbacks of prezi.

Making simple moves from one screen area to the next will eliminate the nauseating effects of cross-screen movement.

Another big drawback is that as much as the quality of working from the internet is a boon, it can also be otherwise owing to slow internet speed.

If there is an internet failure then the presentations uploaded on the internet will be of no use and work will not be completed.

These minor drawbacks can be looked into because in the big picture, it happens to be an effective tool that can help us to pass from power point presentations and come up with something innovative and interesting.

Progress needs to go on and so applies in every possible scenario. Another upcoming example is the Ipad.

Even Apple didn’t realise the success the iPad would have in the business market. Salespeople love that tablet computers put the presentation literally in the audience’s hands, keeping them engaged and giving them control of your content.

With various presentation software solutions available, the tablet looks set to be a big player in the world of business meetings.

With such enhancement, very soon we might enter the era of virtual reality where the concept shown in movies like Iron man or Minority Report might come to life.
