JOIN USTwo graduates', two teachers' seats go to election tomorrow
Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar Jha said on Wednesday that the enrolment in the voters’ list for the four Legislative Council constituencies, by graduates and teachers, has doubled in the past two years.
The elections are scheduled to be held on June 20.
Jha told reporters that compared to 2012, the numbers have risen by close to 50 per cent in two teachers’ and two graduates’ constituencies.
While in 2012, the West Graduates’ constituency had 71,394 registered voters, the number has now gone up to 94,356. In the South-East Graduates’ constituency, the number has gone up to 98,037 from 61,626 in 2012.
In the North-East Teachers’ constituency, the enrolment is placed at 31,809 voters as compared to 15,824 voters two years ago. In the Bangalore Teachers’Constituency, the number is 36,957, up from 19,603 in 2012.
“While there has been a considerable improvement, we believe there is scope for more additions to the voters’ list,” said Jha. Meanwhile, campaigning ended on Wednesday across the four constituencies.
Jha said that the EC has taken all possible measures to ensure that there is no fraudulent voting and that the elections are free and fair. These include photography/videography of every voter, besides keeping proof of name and address.
