The Election Commission has categorically stated that there is no general holiday for schools and colleges, on account of the elections to the Legislative Council from the two teachers’ constituencies.

Teachers who are registered as voters can avail a special casual leave for casting their votes. But, there is no holiday declared. “If there is 100 per cent registration of teachers in a particular school or college, then there is no point in opening the institution for that particular day. It is up to the management of the educational institution to either declare a holiday or not,” said Anil Kumar Jha, Chief Election Officer. Institutions like the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) have postponed examinations scheduled for Friday. The EC has started two helplines for the elections.

The helpline numbers are: 080-22109675/22109670.

For the Bangalore Teachers’ constituency, 13 additional polling stations have been provided. These are in Hebbal, K R Circle,  Hebbal, Byatarayanapura, etc.

Four constituencies go to polls on Friday. The constituencies are Bangalore Teachers’ constituency, North-East Teachers’ constituency, West Graduates’ constituency and South-East Graduates’ constituency.
