JOIN USAn 18-year-old girl is fighting for her life after being stabbed seven times in south Delhi’s Vasant Vihar by a man whom she accused of molestation earlier this year.
The accused surrendered before police after the attack, while the victim is on ventilator at the AIIMS trauma centre.
The girl lives with her parents and two brothers in Munirka. She was attacked while returning home after attending typing classes around 4 pm on Thursday.
“She sustained four stab wounds on the chest, two on thighs and one on neck,” her uncle Ajay told Deccan Herald.
Though the incident took place around 400 metres away from her house, nobody from her family was informed.
Locals made a call to the police control room after which she was admitted to AIIMS.
Around 7 pm, a constable went to her house and told her parents that she had met with a road accident.
Her parents realised the seriousness of the attack only when they reached the hospital. “She has undergone two surgeries and remains in a life-threatening condition,” Ajay added.
The victim, who completed school in April, had scored 57 per cent marks and was hoping for admission in Delhi University.
She was a student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in RK Puram sector 2. It is alleged that 22-year-old Pradeep Singh, a resident of south Delhi’s Mohammadpur, used to stalk her.
Pradeep had also verbally abused her when she resisted his advances.
After being fed up with his constant torture, she had approached Vasant Vihar police station six months back.
Her statement had resulted in a case of molestation against Pradeep. He was arrested, but was later released on bail. The case is pending in Patiala House Court.
“She had attended a hearing of the case on Thursday where she saw Pradeep, but we never thought that she will be attacked,” Ajay said.
Surrenders before police
After the hearing, she went for her typing classes in Munirka. It is believed that Pradeep was following her and waylaid near her house. After the attack, Pradeep surrendered in RK Puram police station.
He was arrested and a fresh case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code has been filed.
