Former India cricketer Rajesh Chauhan today suffered a massive heart attack but doctors attending to him at a city hospital said he was stable.

Chauhan, who formed a successful spin trio with Anil Kumble and Venkatapathy Raju in the 1990s, was rushed to the Sector 9 hospital of the Bhilai Steel Plant after he complained of chest pain at his residence.

The 48-year-old cricketer was then shifted to Apollo BSR Hospital, where he was operated upon. He is said to be stable though still in ICU.

"He is quite stable after the Angioplasty was done as soon as he was brought here. He is under the safe hands of senior cardiologist Dr Dilip Ratnani," an Apollo doctor told PTI.

Chauhan, who is famous for hitting a memorable six in the last over off Saqlain Mushtaq to help India beat Pakistan in Karachi in 1997, represented the country in 21 Tests and 35 one-day internationals between 1993-1998.

The veteran spinner also survived a horrific car crash in April 2007. He currently runs a business here and is also a PRO in Bhilai Steel Plant.
