Four clerical staff members in the office of DCP (Southeast), T D Pawar, have been suspended on the charges of tampering with the constables’ transfer list, said a top officer on Wednesday.

“About 25 constables from 13 police stations in the southeast division were to be transferred but we got applications from over 100 constables. About 25 constables were selected by lot and the transfer order list was prepared,” added the officer.

But the list was fudged overnight and the four staffers included the names of constables close to them.

The next day, on June 10, Pawar signed the transfer order list and forwarded it to the commissioner and then an official notification was issued on the transfers.

Meanwhile, Pawar received an anonymous letter, which said the list had been tampered with. The names picked by lot and those in the list were different, the letter stated.

The DCP promptly gave a report to the Commissioner of Police, Raghavendra Auradkar, in this regard. He recommended strict action against the culprits.

An inquiry later revealed that the four were involved, following which they were suspended, a top police source said, wishing anonymity.

The four staffers are N Achar, administrative officer of the City police’s Southeast division; Srinivas, personal secretary to the DCP; Suresh, computer operator, and Harish, a clerk in the DCP’s office.
“An officer from Koramangala police station is also suspected to be involved.

The constables aspiring to be transferred have bribed the four staffers. The entire issue is being investigated,” said the source.
