The Tamil Nadu government on Monday said the final draft of the report that contains the perspective plan and strategy for development of industries in the Chennai-Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC) region has been submitted to the Centre recently.

State Industries Minister P Thangamani told the Assembly that the CBIC would encompass up to 75 km on both sides of National Highway-46, and pass through seven districts, including Chennai, Kanchipuram, Krishnagiri and Dharmapuri.

He said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which was carrying out comprehensive studies for the project, had already submitted its first interim report to the Centre last year.

“Subsequently, in its report submitted to the Centre in January 2014, the JICA recommended suitable areas of industrial nodes creation in the corridor influence area, including Ponneri taluk of Tiruvallur district and Hosur Taluk of Krishnagiri district,” he said.

“The final draft of the second interim report, which contains the perspective plan and strategy for development of industries and allied infrastructure in the CBIC region, has been submitted to (Central) government,” said the minister.

According to him, many integrated special-investment regions would be developed along the corridor. These areas would be self-sustained industrial townships with world-class infrastructure, and road and rail connectivity for freight movement. “This corridor will become a strategic link in the Golden Quadrilateral and form an important part of the overall plans for providing impetus to the manufacturing sector,” said Thangamani.
