Bishop Cotton Boys’ School prevailed over St Joseph’s Boys’ High School by five runs to win the under-14 section of the All-India Cottonian Shield cricket tournament on Friday.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss in the day-night encounter, Bishop Cotton made 133/6 in their alloted quota of 20 overs.

The total wasn’t a huge one and St Joseph’s made a serious bid to go for the runs. However, they lost wickets at regular intervals and only Dev Dutt BP, who made a significant conribution of 66 runs, occupied the crease for any length of time.

Still, they came close to overhauling the target, falling short narrowly in the end, leaving Cottons victors.

Tharun (2/25), Shrikar (2/18) and Raghav (2/23) all chipped in with wickets for Bishop Cottons, paving their path to victory.

Earlier, Ayush (42 n.o.), Emmanuel (31) and Mihir (47) did the bulk of the scoring for Bishop Cotton, while Adithyan (2/13) got amongst the wickets for St Joseph’s.

Bishop Cotton have the chance to make it two in two finals when the Under-16 side face off against Ebenezer International School on Saturday.

While the hosts defeated La Martiniere, Kolkata by two runs in the first semifinal on Thursday, Ebenezer saw off Frank Anthony Public School in the second last-four clash to make the title round.

Brief scores: Bishop Cotton Boys’ School: 133/6 in 20 overs (Ayush 42 n.o., Emmanuel 31, Mihir R 47; Adithyan K 2-13) bt St Joseph’s Boys’ High School: 128/9 in 20 overs (Dev Dutt BP 66, Tharun 2-25, Shrikar 2-18, Raghav 2-23).
