The CBI which is probing the clash between journalists and advocates on the City Civil Court premises on March 2, 2011, has told the High Court that it would submit its report by month-end.

During the hearing of an interlocutory application by Justice Vaidyanathan Commission, the counsel for the CBI submitted that the investigation is in the final phase and a report would be submitted before August 27.

Meanwhile, the Commission and the State government have filed application seeking to conclude the probe and submit a report.

The commission said its term ends in September and it needs to submit the report to the State government. The IA sought to vacate the stay on submission of the report.

However, Justice A S Bopanna, refused to vacate the stay and observed, “the commission of inquiry cannot submit its report in any form. The earlier order of the court cannot be modified.”

The CBI was entrusted with the probe following a Supreme Court direction. The then government had appointed Justice Vaidyanathan panel to probe the incident. The Advocates Association Bangalore (AAB), however, approached the Supreme Court seeking CBI probe. The apex court had allowed the petition.

The AAB had filed another petition challenging the appointment of the commission. The High Court, earlier, had stayed the commission from submitting its report in the wake of Supreme Court directions.
