A 35-year-old woman has been referred for neurological surgery at the AIIMS trauma centre after her head was slammed against the wall at least three times by her husband’s lover in south Delhi’s Chattarpur, police said.

The victim has been identified as Ajmeri Khatoon. According to police, she lives with her husband Yusuf Khan and son Pervez at Suman Colony in Chattarpur Extension. Yusuf is a construction contractor.

Ajmeri told police that she was attacked when she went to call Yusuf for lunch on Sunday.

“These days, Yusuf has been working at a site near Nanda Hospital in Chattarpur. When Ajmeri went there, she found her husband with another woman,” said a police officer.

Ajmeri claims Yusuf has been involved in an extramarital affair with the woman – identified as Rajkumari.

Workers at the site had left for lunch due to which only Yusuf and Rajkumari were there. Ajmeri says she asked Yusuf to come home with her for lunch, but he replied that he already had lunch with Rajkumari. It led to a heated argument between Ajmeri and Rajkumari.

Yusuf told police that he saw Ajmeri and Rajkumari yelling at each other and attempted to calm them down.

However, Rajkumari allegedly punched Ajmeri causing her to fall down. When Ajmeri stood back up, Rajkumari allegedly grabbed her hair and slammed her head against the wall.

Ajmeri made a call to the police control room after which she was rushed to the AIIMS trauma centre.

“She required stitches and the doctors have referred her for neurological surgery. It would be conducted after all the medical tests are conducted,” the officer added.

A case of attempt to commit culpable homicide under Indian Penal Code has been filed over Ajmeri’s statement. At present, Rajkumari is absconding, and raids are being conducted to nab her.
